Outgoing Liverpool FC captain and legendary midfielder Steven Gerrard has showed faith on the club’s new signing Danny Ings. Liverpool had roped in the 22-year-old forward from relegated side Burnley at the end of this season on a free transfer.

.

Regarding Ings’ future at the club the club legend opined: “The Ings one I’m really excited about because he can be what he wants to be – I know the talent’s there, he’s very young, he’s fresh.”

“I think if he carries on learning and developing he can become a top striker and we love top strikers, so it’s there for them, the stage is there and I wish [him] the best of luck and I’m looking forward to watching [him] play.”

Liverpool finished the last season on a low after going 6-1 against Stoke City in the final game. Their position in the league table 6th and they somehow just managed to qualify for Europa League. Brendan Rodgers failed to rebuild the side after their marquee player Luis Suarez left for FC Barcelona last season. They had bought Mario Balotelli from AC Milan, but the Italian forward had a nightmare of a season. English international striker Daniel Sturridge too failed to make any impact and remained out of action for the majority of the season with a series of injuries. The Reds desperately needed a striker and the inclusion of Ings might bolster the squad.

Gerrard believes that Ings would easily cope with the big club atmosphere and do well with the club. He further added: “He might be the type of player that needs that bigger club, and does thrive on the pressure,” he continued. “He’s certainly got the platform there at one of the best clubs in the world to showcase his talents.

“For me, the supporters just need to be patient with him, he’s still very young and I’m sure he’ll get eased in gently. But, as I say, I’m really looking forward to watching him play.”
