Chelsea Transfer Window Special: From Lionel Messi To Petr Cech

With the frantic transfer season starting, rumors, links and speculations can now easily be hauled from one corner of the world to another. Hence there was no surprise, when a certain Lionel Messi followed Chelsea on Instagram and the world lost it’s mind – linked Chelsea to a 200 million move for Messi. If that wasn’t enough then they are also in race for Marco Reus, Paul Pogba, and probably every other ‘superstar’ out there. The people who give birth to these wonderful speculations, sometime forget the antagonist named ‘Financial Fair Play‘. So without getting into the ‘Is Messi coming?‘ or ‘What about Paul Pogba’? questions which by the way reek of redundancy, we decided to do an in-depth revision of ‘What Chelsea Actually Need‘.

Chelsea’s goalkeeping department is as solid as they come. Thiabut Courtois, has been in sensational form and second keeper Petr Cech, is a solid backup. With Mark Schwarzer going to Leicester City, Chelsea would be happy to keep Cech as a second goalkeeper, till the end of this campaign. This statement, perhaps dozes the Petr Cech transfer speculation, who is linked highly to AS Roma. With Cech, highly unlikely to leave this winter, 21 year old Jamal Blackman, as Jose Mourinho pointed would become Chelsea’s third goalkeeper.

The defensive aspect of things, are being led happily by captain inspirational John Terry. Chelsea, have already enough depth in their defensive ranks and the versatility of Azpilicueta and Ivanovic, adds a cherry on the top. Thus, it makes no sense, if they indulge in a deal containing a defender.

The pivot, needs no reinforcement. Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas, have been in sensational form and are arguably the best pivot in the Premier League. John Obi Mikel and Ramires, lurk in Chelsea’s shadows and have often ‘got the job done’, in the absence of their talented team-mates. With Mourinho, having two players gunning for the pivot position, in form of Ramires and Obi Mikel, Chelsea would be happy to plunge a move for any defensive or central midfielder.

The attacking trio of Hazard, Oscar and Willian, have perhaps been a boon to Jose Mourinho. The trio are as strong in attack, as they are in the defensive side of the game. Something which Mourinho loves. Although, with Salah likely to leave Chelsea for Inter Milan and Andre Schurrle not an apt replacement of any one in the starting three, the club could consider a move for a creative outlet. They have been linked to Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Rues, but Mourinho himself dozed off speculations. However, with fixtures coming in quick and fast, Chelsea could cough up money to add depth to their creative outlets. A move for Rues? perhaps.

Now with Diego Costa, Didier Drogba and Loic Remy gunning for the same, striker’s position, Mourinho would be happy to consider competition instead of launching a massive bid to acquire a striker. Chelsea, have been linked to Wilfried Bony, but the Swansea striker is a big fish in a small pond. Even if Bony comes to them, which is highly unlikely as competition from Man City also persists, then the imposing Ivorian would succumb to the talents of Costa and Drogba, often warming Chelsea’s bench in the process.

Perhaps, with a team as complete as a thought can be, Chelsea would be happy to hold on to their current bunch of players. A creative midfielder, is also not of utmost importance to buy and could perhaps be postponed to the summer transfer window.
