Chelsea FC will sign a left-back before the close of the transfer window following the departure of Filipe Lu s, and Augsburg defender Abdul Baba Rahman is seemingly inching closer to a move to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have been linked with the 21-year-old Ghanaian for the majority of the summer window, and with the Premier League season about to get underway, it seems a deal for the left-back is imminent.
Baba Rahman agent confirms agreement of personal terms
Sascha Empacher, the agent of Augsburg left-back Abdul Baba Rahman indicated that personal terms had been agreed with Premier League champions Chelsea FC, but that the two clubs were still negotiating a transfer fee for his client.
Empacher is quoted by German newspaper Sport Bild as saying: “It is only the clubs that have to find an agreement. We on our side are agreed.”

Earlier, Blues’ boss Jos Mourinho confirmed the club would be looking to bring in at least two more defenders before the close of business to augment the current defence consisting of Gary Cahill, John Terry, Kurt Zouma, Branislav Ivanovi and C sar Azpilicueta.
Speaking after his side’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal FC in the FA Community Shield, Mourinho is quoted by the Daily Express as saying: “I say we need seven plus a quality kid. A quality kid we have. It’s just a question of make a final decision and deciding who to get.”
Chelsea FC have not been clever with their left-back business
In hindsight, the transfer of Filipe Lu s from AtlA?tico Madrid last season does not seem like a great deal of business from the point of view of either the player or Chelsea FC. The Brazilian almost certainly would have seen more time on the pitch with the La Liga side, whilst Chelsea FC lost money by selling him promptly back to his former club after a year.
In the interim, the Blues also sold academy graduate Ryan Bertrand to Southampton, where he had an outstanding season, making the PFA Team of the Year along with three of Mourinho’s defenders. Bertrand would probably not have seen as much game time at the club he grew up with, but could ostensibly have been convinced to stay had he been afforded enough playing time.

Chelsea FC now find themselves in a situation where they will almost certainly have to pay over the odds for Abdul Baba Rahman – reportedly over a 25 million according to the Sport Bild article – who will likely not even be Mourinho’s first choice.
Quite simply, whilst they have done brilliant business in other positions, Chelsea FC have not been smart in terms of their left-back conundrum.
