Chelsea FC star Cesc FAi??bregas believes Blues can win the league despite nightmare start

The Spaniard insists Chelsea FC still have a chance at winning the league despite their worst ever start in Premier League history, picking up just eight points from their opening eight games

Cesc F bregas believes the unpredictability of the league this season means Chelsea FC can still recover and retain their league title. The Blues will have to make history to even finish in the top four, with no team having finished higher than fifth after picking up 8 points from their opening 8 league games.

The Spaniard, who recently won his 100th cap for the national team, has also backed manager Jos Mourinho, claiming the Portuguese is the best man to turn things around and get the Blues back on track once again.

“I believe we can still win the league” — Cesc F bregas

Mourinho recently revealed that F bregas’ mental strength was one of the reasons he remained in the side despite his poor form, and his latest comments seem to suggest the Portuguese was not very wrong about his assessment.

The former Arsenal FC captain has insisted that Chelsea FC can still win the title despite their nightmare start. He was quoted as saying (via ESPN FC): “I still believe we can win the league. It’s not going to be easy but a 10-point gap at this stage of the season is not impossible.

“Last season, we took 22 points from our first eight games but this time every team has lost at least one.

“Manchester City lost to West Ham and Tottenham when no one expected it, Manchester United and Arsenal have also dropped points. No one at Chelsea is happy with our current position but I would prefer to be here now than at the end of the season.

“It’s not how we start the campaign, it’s where we finish it. There is still almost 80 percent of the season to go so we have more than enough time to recover. But we need to start that recovery this weekend.”

F bregas’ comments not as far-fetched as they seem

Although it is extremely unlikely that Chelsea FC will win the league, the midfielder’s comments are not as risible as they may seem. The Blues have clearly struggled to get results this season, but the increasingly unpredictable nature of the league means that even Manchester City are unlikely to run away with the title.

The Citizens have key injuries at the moment, and they never seem to be far away — particularly for star striker Sergio AgA?ero. Manchester United looked promising at the start of the season, but the manner of their defeat to Arsenal FC was seriously damaging to their title credentials.

Arsenal FC are on a high at the moment, but have shown themselves to be unpredictable over the past few seasons as well as in this season, with surprise losses to West Ham United in the league, and Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos in the Champions League.

A first-place finish might be beyond them this season, but Chelsea FC certainly do have the time and resources to be able to dig themselves out of the hole they are currently in and at least finish in the top four.
