Chelsea FC Making A Move For Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Makes Little Sense

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly preparing a shock bid worth A?20 million for Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly considering tabling a A?20 million bid for Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to discourage Arsenal from approaching Petr Cech. Arsene Wenger is believed to be keen on signing Chelsea stalwart Petr Cech, who wants to leave the club in search of regular football. However, unsurprisingly, Mourinho is not very keen on allowing the Czech international join any direct Premier League rivals of the Blues. In fact, Mourinho has issued a direct warning to all the rival league clubs who are planning to pursue the goalkeeper.

a Ia m different. I have the same respect for Petr that everybody at the club has, but my answer (to a proposed move to a rival club) would be- a No way.a If the answer (Abramovich) is different I will accept that. But at every club that is interested in Petr, I can find a player that I like in that team, too.a Mourinho declared.

True to his words, it is now believed that as Arsenala s interest in Cech grows, Mourinho is preparing to complicate the situation by tabling a bid for Oxlade-Chamberlain. The 21-year old Englishman is a promising player but has consistently struggled with injury problems. Chamberlain joined Arsenal in 2011 from Southampton for a reported fee of A?15 million as a teenager and has since then been largely inconsistent for The Gunners nursing several injuries in his four seasons at the club.

Jose Mourinho has a sharp mind which is more than capable of creating devious plans to disrupt the lives of his rivals. It is very much out in the open that the Portuguesea s relationship with a colleaguea Arsene Wenger is not very rosy. The two managers often indulge in several wars of words and never miss a chance to pass a controversial remark in each othera s direction. Now as Wenger is warming up to the idea of bringing Cech to Arsenal, Mourinho gears up to make things difficult for the Frenchman.

.

However, Mourinho making a move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain hardly makes sense. The former Real Madrid manager already boasts of one of the worlda s best wingers a Eden Hazard a on his roster. To partner Eden, Chelsea have a low-key yet hard-working Willian who provides perfect balance to the side. Apart from the two wingers, Chelsea also have recent recruit Juan Cuadrado providing back-up from the bench. In these circumstances it will be illogical for Mourinho chase Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is unlikely to join Arsenala s direct rivals unless there is an irresistible offer on the table. To top that off, Chamberlain is a player who spends majority of the season off the pitch, recovering from injuries.

It is highly unlikely that the move will materialise but knowing Jose, you can never write-off the possibility of the 2-times Champions League winner toying with Arsenal by putting in a bid for the England international.
