Chelsea FC Interested In Manchester United’s Radamel Falcao

Premier League champions Chelsea FC are reportedly interested in signing on-loan Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao in the summer.

It was reported earlier that Jose Mourinho is looking forward to bring in a cover for injury prone forward Diego Costa. The champions are in a dilemma whether to release veteran striker Didier Drogba or offer him a fresh contract.

Diego Costa, who was bought from Atletico Madrid last season, did a fairly good job for Chelsea. He played 25 matches for the club in the Premier League and scored 19 goals. Unfortunately, he missed almost one-third of the season due to his persistent hamstring injury. This has forced Mourinho to search for a cover striker for Costa.

Several other quality strikers were linked with the club, but recent rumours suggest that the Chelsea gaffer wants Colombian international Radamel Falcao who had a disappointing season with Manchester United.

Falcao joined the Red Devils on the transfer deadline day, last summer, on a loan deal from AS Monaco. It has been speculated that United are no longer interested in the striker and they might not retain his services beyond this season.

AS Monaco, on the other hand, are apparently keen to send the striker on another loan stint. The striker has managed to score just 4 goals in 26 Premier League games for Manchester United.

Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes manages both Jose Mourinho and Radamel Falcao and it is believed that this link may land Falcao at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Falcao, although a strong finisher, may not suit Mourinho’s system which requires the strikers to hold up the ball and also contribute defensively; something that Falcao isn’t exactly strong at. However, he could well prove to be a very effective cover for Diego Costa, who is the first choice striker at Chelsea FC.

Manchester United are currently paying Falcao A?265,000-a-week in wages. While finances have never been a deterrent with Roman Abrahimocih – for acquiring the right players, Chelsea may not be be willing to pay that kind of money for a striker who has failed to inspire during his spell at Manchester United.
