Premier League champions Chelsea FC have roped in Colombian international striker Radamel Falcao on loan from French side AS Monaco, according to Sky Sports’ report.
Falcao had spent a year at Manchester United last season on loan from the French side but failed to make an impact after coming back from a grueling injury. The striker had scored just 4 goals in the entire season and spent most of the time at the bench. After an unfortunate stint at Old Trafford, Louis van Gaal had decided to release him and did not opt to buy him on a permanent basis. Since his departure, the Colombian was strongly linked with a move to the reigning Premier League champions.
The Blues gaffer Jose Mourinho too had earlier showed interest in the forward and even said that he would love to help Falcao improve and bring the best out of him.
Falcao now joins the likes of Diego Costa, Felipe Luis, his teammates from Atletico Madrid. They had won the Copa del Rey together in 2013. The striker will replace outgoing veteran forward Didier Drogba whose contract expired at the end of this season.
Time will only tell if Radamel Falcao will actually improve his game and serve Chelsea this season. He will have to shrug off his poor memories of last season in the Premier League and look forward to a fresh start with the champions. Considering the fact that he is actually a replacement of Drogba the move is actually not that bad. Statistically even in a very poor season Falcao was actually better than 34-year-old Drogba. Compared to Falcao’s 4 goals and 4 assists, Drogba managed to score just 2 goals and provided 1 assist.
