Former Real Madrid and Chelsea FC manager Carlo Ancelotti has denied reports of being contacted for the Liverpool FC job.

Liverpool FC sacked manager Brendan Rodgers more than a fortnight ago, with Jurgen Klopp being appointed as the new manager to replace the Northern Irishman.

Ancelotti was heavily linked with the vacant position, with Harry Redknapp stating that the Italian had been contacted by the Reds.

However, the man who won Real Madrid their 10th European Cup title, denied that he was in “direct touch” with the directors at Liverpool FC.

Carlo Ancelotti told Goal.com:

“When a job becomes available, they always use the names of the coaches currently without a team, so my name was thrown out there.

“But I never had any direct contact with the directors of Liverpool.”

Ancelotti is currently on a sabbatical, as he recovers from back surgery after leaving Real Madrid in May following a trophy-less season.

Ancelotti was heavily linked with the vacant job at Anfield, with many stating that the Italian’s incredible CV would be a perfect fit for the faltering Reds.

Ancelotti has managed Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea FC, PSG, Real Madrid in his career, with some of the biggest names playing under him.

.

His ability to attract star players was touted as the biggest reason to justify Liverpool FC wanting to appoint him as their manager, despite the Italian winning only three leagues in his career with some of the biggest names.

Eventually, Liverpool FC went for double Bundesliga winner Jurgen Klopp, who also guided Borussia Dortmund to a UEFA Champions League Final.

Klopp has signed a three-year contract at Anfield and has had an immediate impact with the Reds holding an in-from Spurs to a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane.
