Brendan Rodgers: Our Season Doesn’t End Until The Final Whistle At Stoke

Brendan Rodgers insists his players will fight till the end to finish strongly in the Premier League.

The Reds have struggled on the pitch recently losing to Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley before drawing with West Bromwich Albion and suffering defeat at the KC Stadium to Hull City.

The Gaffer however insists that his players are lacking nothing in terms of commitment and attitude, and expects them to continue in that manner for the remaining four matches of the season.

Before Saturday afternoons visit of Queens Park Rangers to Anfield, the manager emphasised the need to have a determined mentality until the campaign ends.

Rodgers said : “I must stress that the players, like in the game the other night, are giving absolutely everything. It’s not a team that’s lacking commitment and attitude.

“You saw from the game the other night they’re giving everything in the game, we probably just lacked that bit of belief and confidence in and around vital areas of the field, which in the past the team has shown itself to be very strong in.

“But that’s something that’s natural. But make no mistake about it – the players will give everything right to the very end. Our season doesn’t finish until the final whistle at Stoke.

“I’ve always said that and I reiterate that. This is a team that will fight right to the very end and now the next game is very, very important for us.”

The Liverpool boss also confirmed that Captain Steven Gerrard was fit to face Queens Park Rangers, which will be his penultimate home game for the Reds.

Rodgers on Gerrard:”The Saturday-Tuesday game was always going to be difficult, but certainly having had a good week’s preparation, he’ll be fit and flying for the weekend,” said the boss.

“He’s just approaching every game and giving his maximum; his concentration has never waned, he has been really focused on helping the team. It will be exactly the same tomorrow.

Rodgers also confirmed that Lucas Leiva is in contention, though neither Daniel Sturridge, Mario Balotelli nor Mamadou Sakho can be called upon.

QPR who are fighting the Relegation battle have everything to play for on Saturday, but Rodgers saiid there will no complacency shown by the Rds.

Brendan said:”It’ll be a very, very tough game for us. Chris has gone in there and they’re very well organised, they’re all working hard, you see in a lot of their recent games they press the ball very high up the field, very much as a unit.

“Young Charlie [Austin] up front with Bobby Zamora, they’re a real handful – you’ve seen it in their recent games. Their last game it was tough for them but they still make it very, very difficult whether it’s home or away.

“So we totally respect them and their fight, but obviously we focus on ourselves, knowing that we’re fighting as well to finish as high as we can.”
