Brendan Rodgers stays on as the Liverpool Manager following talks last night with Liverpool chairman Tom Werner and director Mike Gordon as part of the club’s end-of-season review. .

Werner and Gordon had flown down from the United States on Monday afternoon and were reportedly in the meeting for three hours with Brendan Rodgers on Tuesday afternoon in order to analyze what went wrong as the club failed to build on from the second place finish in 2013-14 to finish sixth this season.

A “comprehensive plan” to ensure there is no repeat of this season was mutually agreed by everyone to ensure Liverpool are back in contention for a place in the Champion’s League. This confirms the reports suggesting earlier that the manager had the full backing of the owners despite a poor campaign. Central to this was the theory that Brendan Rodgers was not responsible for the poor recruitment policy that had led Liverpool down. He was asked to give his opinion on what went wrong during the course of the season, his views on the transfer committee and his future plans.

Liverpool have a 53.71% win record under Brendan Rodgers with the club going very close to the league title in 2013-14. They have finished in the top five only once in the last six years and that was under Brendan Rodgers. The owners have backed their young manager to set the wrongs of this season right.

The retention of Brendan Rodgers lifts a massive cloud of uncertainty at Liverpool as they hope to conclude a deal for James Milner. A deal for Burnley’s Danny Ings is also thought to be close. Liverpool are expected to go back with an improved offer for Nathaniel Clyne following a A?10m offer that was rejected by Southampton. Christian Benteke is also high on the target list of the Merseysiders.
