Benzema Could Miss El Clasico Due To Speeding Trial

"The electronic board always shows the No.9"

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema could miss the much-awaited clash against FC Barcelona, as his appearance in court coincides with the date of El Classico. The Frenchman has been slated to appear in court for driving without a license in Madrid.

According to Spanish Radio station Cadena, the 28-year-old will have his hearing in court on 21st November, although the time hasn’t been finalised yet.

Benzema has had a history of road accidents, and he has been convicted of reckless driving and fined $23,400. Benzema was apparently carrying a piece of paper which he thought would allow him to drive.

“He offered the police a piece of paper, which he claimed gave him permission to drive provisionally,” as per reports. However, it turned out that the Frenchman was slapped with a ticket.

The ideal scenario for Benzema would entail appearing in court in the morning and playing the match in the evening, but whether that will happen remains to be seen.

How crucial is Benzema to Real Madrid?

With Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo not in top form, Karim Benzema will play a pivotal role for Real Madrid in the upcoming El Classico. The Frenchman likes to take responsibility, as he has so often demonstrated for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid have already had quite a few injury problems this season, and Karim Benzema being sidelined against arch rivals FC Barcelona may be catastrophic for the capital outfit.
