Sergio Busquets firmly believes that Lionel Messi wants to stay at Barcelona despite doubts over his future.

Barcelona midfielder, Sergio Busquets insists that Lionel Messi wants to stay at Barcelona and quashes claims regarding the Argentinea s fall-out with coach Luis Enrique. Busquets has no doubts about Messi continuing at Barcelona and believes the forwarda s comments about a doubtful future were typical for a football player.

“Messi is a very down-to-earth person,” Busquets told a news conference on Tuesday. “He may be an amazing player but, as he said the other day, he’s a squad member like any other.

“He controls his future and he has said he has no intention of leaving and that’s very important for us. All he was saying yesterday was the typical cliche that you never know what might happen in the future.”

There is a lot of speculation over Messia s future and the off-field issues troubling Barcelona at the moment. The club sacked sporting director Andoni Zubazarreta with his assistant and former club captain Carles Puyol also quitting from his position. Also, reports of Luis Enriquea s job being on the line after a fall-out with Leo Messi are also making news.

However, Busquets calmly denied all the speculation about the club being in crisis.

He said: “People usually only know what they are told by the press but I think everyone has now had a chance to speak. We just want to be united, to be as one, and for the fans to be behind us.”

The rumour of Messi being on the verge of bidding adieu to his boyhood club Barcelona received further fuel when the Argentina international admitted at Mondaya s Ballon da Or ceremony that he had no idea where he would finish his career. When asked whether he might one day return to hometown club Newell’s Old Boys, Messi said: “I don’t know if I’ll play for Newell’s in the future, and I don’t know where I’ll be next year,” however, he later backtracked, stating, “No matter what I say, my words get twisted. I’m in no way thinking about leaving. I just want to win more trophies”.

Messia s future at the Catalan club is in doubt for the first time in his career. The speculation began when Messi did not start the game against Real Sociedad, which Barcelona lost 1-0. Later the rumours started gaining pace as Messi started following Chelsea and Chelsea players Felipe Luis and Thibaut Courtois on Instagram.
