Balotelli facing long spell on the sidelines, with AC Milan confirming the striker will undergo groin operation

On-loan Liverpool FC striker Mario Balotelli has travelled to Munich for a groin operation after being unable to shake off the persistent injury with conventional treatment methods

AC Milan have released a statement confirming that Italy striker Mario Balotelli will undergo a groin operation in Germany, after failing to shake off an injury that has kept him out of action since the 27th of September.

The on-loan Liverpool FC forward has made just four appearances for SiniA?a Mihajlovi ‘s side this season, scoring one goal. There was no indication from AC Milan as to how long the lay-off is expected to be, but the 25-year-old is unlikely to add to his goal tally any time soon.

Balotelli to have groin operation on Wednesday

Italian giants AC Milan released a statement on their official club website on Tuesday, confirming that striker Mario Balotelli will undergo a groin operation in Germany after failing to respond to conservative treatment methods.

The full statement read: “AC Milan communicates that tomorrow Mario Balotelli will have surgery to correct a persistent groin injury in Munich, Germany. The injury has been ongoing for weeks and conservative treatment has not had the desired effect.

.

“The operation will be conducted by professor Ulrike Muschaweck.”

AC Milan will not miss Balotelli

Although Balotelli can be a real handful for defenders in his best form, the Italian has not been consistently good for a while now, and AC Milan have several other options up front that they can look to.

New signings Carlos Bacca and Luiz Adriano have 9 goals between them from the opening 12 games, while young Frenchman Mbaye Niang can also fill in if necessary. Quite simply, Balotelli is not crucial to the side, and although his loss will reduce Mihajlovi ‘s options, the Rossoneri should be able to cope with his absence relatively comfortably.
