Former FC Barcelona winger Pedro’s agent has revealed that Manchester United “probably dropped the ball” in the battle for the Spain star and that Chelsea FC swooped in “like a lightning bolt” to sign him.
Chelsea FC secured the signature of FC Barcelona winger Pedro Rodriguez earlier this week. It was reported by the Telegraph that Manchester United wanted to sign the Spanish winger, but the club failed to agree a fee with FC Barcelona.
Pedro later confirmed the Telegraph’s version of story by stating to Chelsea FC official website that it was Jose Mourinho and Cesc Fabregas who convinced him to sign for the club.
However, van Gaal went onto deny that the club wanted to sign Pedro, despite admitting that the player fits the profile of the player they want.
Van Gaal’s claims have been rebuffed by Pedro’s agent, Antonio Sanz. He revealed that Manchester United really lost out to Chelsea in the race to sign his player by dwelling too long in agreeing a transfer fee with FC Barcelona.
He was quoted saying by Cadena Ser in the audio below:
“Maybe Manchester United fell asleep. The negotiation with Chelsea was like a lightning bolt.a
a It is common knowledge that United were in the bidding for Pedro, but Chelsea were faster and within 24 hours reached an agreement with the club. It was a whirlwind.”
