Defending champions Atl tico de Kolkata, who defeated Kerala Blasters FC on Tuesday, had two good news waiting for their supporters on Diwali, as they confirmed the news of a new signing Dejan Lekic along with the return of their marquee player H lder Postiga.
The Serbian international Lekic, who played for La Liga side SD Eibar in the previous season, made 17 appearance from the bench and will be replace Josemi for the rest of the tournament. Lekic would be the third player to join the Red and Whites from SD Eibar, after Borja Fernandez and Javi Lara.
.
Atletico had been over reliant on Iain Hume, who is more of a deep forward than a poacher, and saw their campaign stutter due to a lack of goals. Lekic had his best season in the Spanish second division with 12 goals for Sporting Gijon and will be hoping to use the Indian Super League as stage to showcase his ability and earn a contract in Europe during the January transfer window. Lekic, though, is remembered for his brace against FC Barcelona, as Osasuna managed to defeat the Spanish giants.
Lekic, may have been out of contract, but Habas and Atletico supporter will be hoping that the arrival of Lekic would signal a lesser amount of reliance on the Candian untill Postiga, who had been recovering in Madrid, makes his triumphant return on November 14th.
