Arsene Wenger Explains Why He Let Lukas Podolski Leave The Club

Arsene Wenger has explained, why he let World Cup winner Lukas Podolski join Galatasaray, as the Frenchman feels he could not provide Podolski with the trust and confidence, needed by the 30-year-old to excel.

Lukas Podolski signed for Turkish champions Galatasaray last week for a paltry sum of A?1.8 million, after having spent half of last season on loan at Italian club, Inter Milan, where he scored a solitary goal in 18 appearances. The 30-year-old had seen himself fall down the pecking order at the Emirates, and featured only sporadically during his last season with the Gunners.

Podolski, who plies his trade on the left wing, had to face Arsenal FC player of the year Alexis Sanchez’s direct competition, for his preferred position, while other forwards in the name of Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ensured that the German was surplus to requirements at the Emirates.

Wenger speaking to Arsenal player, said– “Lukas Podolski played in a position that is congested because we have so many wide players or players who can play wide.

“I felt that the opportunities for him to play with the stature a player has, he needed to go somewhere and play.

“I believe ita s a good move for him because if Lukas has confidence and trust from the manager, he has the potential and the talent. I was not sure I could give that to him here.” .
