Arsenal are considering making a bid for Manchester United defender Jonny Evans, according to reports.

According to reports in the Express, Arsenal are weighing a move for United defender Jonny Evans.

They claim that there is a chance Evans, who has one year left on his contract, could want to move away from the club given Manchester United are linked with Sergio Ramos and Nicolas Otamendi. The arrival of either could “unsettle” the 27 year-old and Arsene Wenger is ready to give the central defender a chance at the London club.

The report states: Wenger is believed to be keen to secure the centre-back’s services with only Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista to call upon.

.

However, Arsenal are in for a fight with West Brom also seeming keen on the defender.

The Northern Irishman came through the ranks of Manchester United. After spending a year on loan at Sunderland, he became a first team regular in 2008. The player has 198 appearances for the Red Devils, but it seems like he will be unable to break the 200 mark for his boyhood club.

It will be difficult for Arsenal to persuade Evans to join the club as he will probably have to settle for a place on the bench and at the moment, when the arrival of both Ramos and Otamendi look unlikely, he has a better chance of getting more minutes at his present club. At West Brom, who signed Darren Fletcher from United recently, he could get to play week in-week out, which could help his case for the national team.

The chance to play for another top 4 club, where he could play continental football, is likely to affect his decision and it is likely, if given a chance, Evans will opt for the Gunners.
