Arsene Wenger is planning to offload four of Arsenala s first team members in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, is believed to be planning a major summer clear-out which will see four first-team members leave the club. It is believed that Wenger will see-through the clear-out irrespective of whether the club qualifies for Champions League or not.
According to reports in The Sun, the Gunner boss is set to offload Abou Diaby, Mikel Arteta, Per Mertesacker and Mathieu Flamini. This will mean that Arsenal will be very active in the summer window and may be planning to sign 3-4 players to replace the senior members that they will let go off.
Abou Diaby, who has suffered from various injuries throughout his career, has spent most of his Arsenal career recovering from injuries. It is believed that Arsene Wenger is finally considering to let the Frenchman go ply his trade elsewhere. Earlier, Wenger had spoken about Diabya s contract extension but also confirmed that he is not ready to play. However, latest reports suggest that the midfielder might not get a new contract and will have to look elsewhere in an attempt to continue his football career.
The other two senior midfielders that will be let go are captain Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini. Both play a deeper role in the midfield and both have been struggling with injuries and bad form this season. Arsene Wenger is planning to let the three midfielders go and bring in strong reinforcement in the form of youngster, Morgan Schneiderlin.
Another player set to be offloaded is Germany international, Per Mertesacker. Arsenala s defence has struggled throughout the season with poor performances and various injury concerns. Wenger, who signed Gabriel Paulista in January, might be planning to make some more changes in the defensive department by getting rid of Mertesacker. It is believed that Lyona s Umtiti will be targeted by the Gunners to replace Mertesacker.
Arsene Wengera s side reeks of deadwood and with the funds available with the club, some major summer changes will be welcomed by the Arsenal fans. Young blood with fresh energy should be targeted and Wenger must get rid of players who spend more time recovering from injuries than actually playing for the club and also the ones that are slowly losing their speed.
It is believed that Wenger wants to challenge for the title next season and hence, he will make some major changes to his squad come summer.
