Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham have received a transfer blow as West Ham United defender Winston Reid has signed a new six-and-a-half-year contract with the Hammers.

The 26-year old was heavily linked with a move in the winter after his contract was set to expire in the summer and there were mo talks of an extension in January. According to reports, New Zealand international wanted to wait and see the offers on his table. He has now done a u-turn and signed a contract that will keep him at the club until 2021.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce had admitted in early January that Reid will leave the club after revealing that the defender had ‘no future’ at the club. Reid was strongly linked with a move to Tottenham and Arsenal, and Liverpool were outsiders in signing him as well.

Reid told the West Ham United website that he felt wanted at the club, a Ita s one of those things that took a bit of time, but we got there in the end and Ia m very happy to be here for the next part of my career. Ia m looking forward to it.

a At the end of the day, for myself I feel comfortable here. I was speaking with the Joint-Chairman David Sullivan and everybody and felt like I was valued here.

“He was clearly very committed to getting the deal done and keeping me at the club, so Ia d like to thank him for that and Ia m delighted to sign for the next six years.

a My family are happy living here too. Wea ve been part of the club living in London, so we weighed all the factors up and Ia m delighted to be staying here.a

Reid joined the Londoners from Danish side FC Midtjylland five years ago in 2010 and was pretty much a squad player for the Hammers until last season when his stock started to rise. He played a part for West Ham on their route back to the Premier League three years ago and since then he has kicked on in the following seasons. Reid was deployed as a right-back in some of the games although he is predominantly a center back. This season, he has been a first team regular after appearing in all but three games so far in the Premier League for the Hammers and has made 28 appearances in all competitions. He has forged a good partnership with fellow center backs James Collins and James Tomkins.
