Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger has given the team news ahead of his side’s trip to the King Power stadium to take on high-flying Leicester City.
Central defender Gabriel, who was sent off in the clash against Chelsea FC, had his red card rescinded by the FA, but has been handed a one match ban for improper conduct following his wrongful dismissal. The FA had overturned the three-match ban that the centre-back faced, but he will be unavailable for the clash against Leicester City after the new ruling.
Coquelin has a bigger chance for Manchester United — Arsene Wenger
Combative midfielder Francis Coquelin, who was withdrawn at half-time in last weekend’s heated clash against Chelsea FC is yet to recover from a knee injury sustained during the game and Arsene Wenger believes next weekend’s clash against Manchester United will be a more realistic date for his return.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by the club’s official website, Wenger said:
“He is progressing well, but he will not be available for Leicester. He has a scan today but the evolution is quite positive. He might start practice tomorrow. He has a little chance for Tuesday, and a bigger chance for Man United. It is very difficult to be definite today.”
It was very successful — Wenger on Wilshere’s surgery
English midfielder Jack Wilshere, who sustained a hairline crack before the Community Shield game against Chelsea FC, has successfully undergone surgery on his left fibula, where a small plate has been inserted. Arsene Wenger is hopeful that the 23-year-old midfielder will recuperate completely and won’t suffer any setbacks on his road to recovery. He also commented on Danny Welbeck and Tomas Rosicky, the other two long term absentees for Arsenal FC.
“They are all doing well. Jack just had surgery so at the moment he cannot do anything. Danny is doing well, Tomas Rosicky as well.”
Wenger confirmed that the surgery on Wilshere was successful.
.
“It was very successful and touch wood hopefully all goes well now.”
Meanwhile, suspended midfielder Santi Cazorla returns for the Gunners. The Spaniard was sent off during the clash against Chelsea FC and missed the Capital One Cup clash against Tottenham due to suspension.
