After the 4-0 defeat at Southampton, Arsenal FC are all set to bring in reinforcements as they look to challenge for the Premier league title. Their first investment in January will be Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny, who will sign for the Gunners on Wednesday.
The likes of Telegraph and Dailymail have reported on Saturday that Elneny will arrive at the Emirates as soon as the transfer window opens on 1st January 2016. Elneny will have a medical in Paris on Tuesday before he finally signs for Arsenal.
Elneny’s position
Having started his professional career at Arab Contractors, he left the club at the age of 16, and was never really a star at any of his previous clubs. However, Basel were able to recognize the spark and signed him in 2013. Much like Mohamed Salah, Elneny’s rise has been gradual but steady, and it’s no surprise that the Gunners are interested in the 23-year-old.
Gunners close to wrapping up deal
It is reported to be a deal of five million Euros, in a fee that could rise to 7 million. 101greatgoals also revealed that Elneny’s dream club is Barcelona, the club that Arsenal will face in the round of 16 of the champions league this season.
.
Elneny is a holding mid fielder and will fit in perfectly in place of Santi Cazorla or Francis Coquelin who are both injured at the moment. Going forward, Elneny offers much more than Coquelin, and the Egyptian could be more than just a short term replacement for the Frenchman.
