Arsenal FC are closing in on the signature of Petr Cech from Chelsea.

Petr Cech has had a lot of gossip surrounding him for some time now. The Czech international is clearly too good to be a deputy and at Chelsea, Courtois is now the undisputed number one.

Cech has been linked with a move to Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and PSG and it seems that Arsenal are now front-runners for his services.

The Daily Mail report: Talks over a proposed A?11million switch for the goalkeeper have continued this week and the Gunners are now quietly confident of landing the 33-year-old goalkeeper before the start of pre-season. Jose Mourinho had initially shown a reluctance to sell Cech to a direct rival, but discussions are understood to have progressed well and are now heading for a positive conclusion.

Wenger currently has David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny as his goalkeepers and the arrival of Cech could mean the end of Ospina at the London club, after just one season. Ospine impressed ever since he took on the gloves during the latter half of the season but the Colombian could depart as he doesn’t wish to be an understudy to Cech, who is moving away from Chelsea to not be second choice so will naturally be guaranteed a first-team place wherever he goes.

Ospina has been linked with a A?3.9m move to Fenerbahce. HaberTurk have claimed that Turkish side Fenerbahce have agreed the deal to sign the Colombian stopper.

Szczesny, though, is happy to stay with the Londoners and wants to fight for his place, therefore in all likelihood he will be Wenger’s number 2 next season.

Jose Mourinho really wanted the goalkeeper to stay with the club but understood that a player of his capabilities wanted to play every game. He had said, “My perfect scenario is that he stays with us, I think he belongs to this club, this club belongs to his history and to his life, too. He is a fantastic keeper, fantastic dressing room and squad man. I tried to prove the respect I have for him. I played him in the cups, gave him matches in the Premier League. I can imagine that a 32 or 33 year old keeper feels young and feels the passion to play every game.a

PSG were also heavily interested in the player, but Cech wanted to stay in the Premier League and has therefore chosen Arsenal, according to English media outlets.

Arsenal are yet to table a formal bid but the Gunners are confident that their A?11million offer will be accepted.
