Arsenal are close to signing Colombian striker, Jackson Martinez, from FC Porto for a fee believed to be in the region of A?24.7 million.

Jackson Martinez is ready to quit FC Porto this season and a move to the Premier League is on the cards as Arsenal close in on the Colombian. . According to reports, Arsenal are ready to trigger a A?24.7 million release clause in the strikera s contract and bring him to England.

Other Premier League clubs like Liverpool and Tottenham are also believed to be interested in the forward but it is believed that the Gunners have agreed terms and the transfer will take place.

Porto president Nuno Pinto da Costa had recently revealed his uncertainty over the playera s future despite the cluba s eagerness to keep him.

He said: a Hea s a player we want to keep, but we cannot stop someone paying the clause.

“Jackson went on vacation and so when he returns we will try to renew his deal just like last year.a

Jackson Martinez, who has scored 21 goals this season for the Portuguese club, had previously said that he is ready to move on from Porto and Arsenal seems like the right destination for the forward.

THT Verdict: Likely

It has been a long time since Arsenal challenged for the league title. The Gunners are well equipped in the midfield department but the attack definitely likes the x-factor. Giroud has to take most of the responsibility but sometimes the Frenchman falls short and does not do justice to the chances created by Mesut zil and Alexis Sanchez. Martinez could provide that killer instinct with his strong physique and sublime finishing. The Colombian will be a great addition to Arsenala s roster.
