Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger is still confident of turning it around against Bayern Munich in the second leg.
Despite taking the game to Bayern in the opening exchanges of the game and showing great endeavour to keep the score line down to 0-1 till the very end, the second goal scored by Thomas Muller at the Emirates broke Arsenal hearts and now they are left with a mountain to climb in the second leg. The Gunners did fight back from a similar situation last season when they gave the German club a scare in the second leg after going down 1-3 in the first leg at home and Arsene Wenger believes that his side can repeat that feat of stunning the home side in Munich.
“I havenai??i??t given up on that. It is disappointing and difficult statistically, not likely to happen, but in football we have seen worse things. We can play again, why not, against 10 men after 20 minutes – you never know.
“What is important is that we are in good shape mentally before we go there and have good results [behind us] and have a go. I am confident we can produce a stunning result over there. It is down to scoring the first goal, and after that anything is possible.” ai??i?? The Arsenal manager said.
The midweek performance has taken out a lot from the players and Arsene Wenger feels that it will take time for the players to clear their minds about that loss. But despite the result, the Frenchman insisted that his side can be proud of the performance they produced after going down to 10-men and managing to keep it to a respectable score line against such a strong opponent. He now wants his team to focus on Sunderland and build up momentum before the return leg.

“The players can be proud because they put in the quality of the performance but frustrated because we didn’t get the result that we wanted. Overall we have to transfer the positives of this game into our end of season and get on with it and try to reverse it in the second leg at Bayern.
“Immediately after a game like that, yesterday morning, 24 hours later, basically you are still in the game. What is in front of us is so exciting, I think that will lift the players again.
“You cannot fool the players. You know they have put the performance in, and the pride of the performance is always a good basis to rebuild confidence and excitement for the next game. That is vital.
