Three Things: What Liverpool Need To Do To Win Against Arsenal

Liverpool host Arsenal in an important and big match for both the sides. The match requires Liverpool to put up a solid and winning performance against the potential title winners Arsenal and comes at an important juncture for both the sides. With more than half a season gone, both clubs find themselves at places they want to be. Liverpool want Champions League football next season, and are currently occupying the fourth place. However, the race for the fourth spot in tough as Spurs, Everton and United are all breathing down the Reds’ backs. For Arsenal, its all about the glory of finally winning the league and are not on the top spot, thanks to a Chelsea win against Manchester City. However, its a three way race to the first spot and Arsenal too want to consolidate their position on the top.

Here is a look at three things the Reds will have to do, in order to edge out the visiting Gunners

1. Suarez has to prove he can score against big clubs

Suarez does not have a goal against any of the present top three clubs this season. A lot of people have suggested that despite being a talismanic and mesmerizing player, who can score 5 goals in a single match, Suarez does not have what Liverpool need in a big match and usually is shut against strong oppositions.

Luis Suarez needs to prove his critics wrong and have the last word in this important tie. To be fair to Luis, he has played an important part in all the game, even without finding the back of the net. However, against Arsenal, the player was kept quite at the Emirates, as Liverpool failed to find the ploy to break Arsenal’s defence.Ai??Ai??He needs to have a good game against Arsenal who he has never scored against. The player has the credentials to score against any club in the world, but the most important test in one which awaits the 27 year old on Saturday. The Uruguyan needs to help his team get the three points at home and would want to have a great game. 2. In case of a two man midfield, Rodgers should start Allen ahead of Henderson

Choosing Allen, who has looked good since his injury comebacks, in the cameo appearances, might be popping in the Liverpool manager’s mind. Allen and Gerrard would certainly prove to be a more solid midfield to contain Arsenal’s dangerous attacking midfielders than that of Henderson and Gerrard.Ai??Allen, has proved what he can do against big sides, which was illustrated through the Manchester City at Eithad match last season. Playing Ai??the Welsh international would certainly give Gerrard more flexibility to play more of a playmaker role than to just be responsible to do the defensive work. Allen has the capabilities to move forward, and when the Welsh player does that, Gerrard can take over the defensive role. The two players might work out a fine midfield partnership. 3. The ideal way would be to play a 3 man midfield and rest Coutinho

This might raise more than just a few eyebrows, but resting the Brazilian and opting to play three men in the midfield would probably be the best bet for Liverpool to get the three points at home. Coutinho is in a bit of a rough patch of form. Heai??i??s still influencing the play in the final third, but one certainly holds higher expectations from the player especially considering he is linking up with the prolific strike duo of Sturridge and Suarez.Ai??Against Manchester City and Stoke, Coutinho didnai??i??t complete a single ‘key pass’.Ai??Coutinho is not by any means a bad or not talented player. He is just someone whose performances have dipped in recent times and he is clearly under-confident in front of the goal as well. However, the Brazilian is only 21 and therefore is going to get out of this patch soon. Sometime on the bench would not do the player any harm and might just prove to be what he needs, like in the case of Sterling last season.

In this match, going with the trio of Gerrard-Allen and Henderson makes all the sense in the world. Allen would be the defensive minded midfielder with Gerrard doing the dual role of a holding midfielder and a deep lying playmaker. Henderson, on the other hand, would do the attacking bit for the midfield and would play right behind the striker, the position he has recently become so lethal in. Going this way would certainly prove to be better for the Reds.
