Manchester United draw against Sunderland 1-1 as Louis van Gaal still remains win-less in the EPL.
Manchester United are yet to pick up from their last season’s dismal performances as they drew Sunderland in the second game of the league. The Red Devils won each of their pre-season games which included victories over Real Madrid and Liverpool. However, they have not so far replicated that form and drew their second game of the league.
Juan Mata scored in the opening minutes of the game but Jack Rodwell equalized soon after. A goalless second half, which included some penalty claims on United’s part, ended the game with a 1-1 scoreline.
The new United manager was not pleased with his side’s performance and felt that the combination between the midfielders and the forwards was not good enough.
“The purpose of the game is to create more chances and score goals. We haven’t created more chances, but in the second half we were more dominant than we were against Swansea. That’s a plus, but we have to create more from that dominance,” claimed the Dutchman
“You have to recognise the fight of the opponent. We have reached Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie a lot of times, but after that you need the support of the midfielders, and the combination was not good enough”.
There were two penalty shouts from the Red Devils after Van Persie and Ashley Young were fouled consecutively in the box. Ashley Young looked to be going down easily and was given a yellow card for simulation. The United coach felt that the penalty shouts were legitimate and the club should have been awarded a spot kick.
“The only reason to give a penalty is when the opponent touches the leg of a player. Van Persie and Young were touched. Young lifted the ball across the opponent and he was touched by the opponent. The referee can give a penalty – but we don’t have to talk too much about that. We can talk about our passing game which was not good enough.”
Asked weather he felt Young dove, he said, “No I don’t think so. He was tackled, in my opinion. After that he was exaggerating. It’s not diving because he was touched by the opponent.”
Angel di Maria has been reported to be closing in on a whooping A?63.9m move to the club.Ai??When asked about whether United are close to signing him from Real Madrid, Louis Van Gaal said, “I cannot say anything at this time. I think always the club has to announce it first.Ai??And when we are thinking it’s the right time we come you to and say ‘we have bought that player’. Do I like him? This name dropping is interesting since the Chile international has been linked with the Manchester club all summer. While Vidal saga continues and new reports emerge everyday, it seems that di Maria is heading to United as Xabi Alonso has also confirmed the news via Twitter.
