Sir Alex Ferguson has backed his successor David Moyes to turn things around for Manchester United and has asked to give him a bit of time.
David Moyesai??i?? short, yet eventful, reign so far has come under a lot of scrutiny from fans and media alike. Manchester United have struggled in the league, were knocked out of the League Cup by Sunderland, lost to Swansea City in the FA Cup and are now on the verge of being knocked out of the Champions League at the hands of Olympiakos.
Replacing someone like Sir Alex Ferguson was always going to be tough task, but few would have expected them to drop out of the top four at the start of this season, considering Moyes was handed over a title-winning squad. Yet United are now competing with Tottenham Hotspur and Everton for a top five berth as Liverpool looked to have grabbed the final spot in the top four.
There have been a lot of speculations regarding his future at the club, with reports suggesting that United could look for a replacement if Moyesai??i?? side fails to show any improvement in performances before the end of this season. United are expected to spend heavily in the summer transfer window as they look to completely overhaul the current squad, but questions have been asked whether David Moyes can be trusted with that big transfer budget.
Sir Alex Ferguson has however backed the formed Everton manager, who was handpicked by him as his replacement, to turn things around. The former Manchester United manager believed that Moyes has had to deal with a lot of changes and that he needs time to show his worth.
“They (United) will be all right.
“It’s early days and there have been a lot of changes. He (Moyes) needs time. I was there for 27 years, so with a new manager, it takes time. But they’ll be okay.” ai??i?? The former Manchester United boss said at a party thrown by British Consul-General Chris O’Connor in Los Angeles.
Sir Alex did ask the Manchester United fans to stand by their new manager, as they had supported him in the past, but poor performances has certainly tested their patience this season. While most of the United fans have already turned their back on Moyes, it will be interesting to see how long the board provides their backing to the former Everton manager.
