Frank Lampard accepts that Chelsea FC made a mistake by selling Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool FC.
One of the prime reasons why Chelsea fell short of their title aspirations this season is due to the lack of a goal scoring striker upfront. The Blues were too dependent on their midfield to provide them with the goals and their three strikers, Samuel Etoai??i??o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba, managed only 19 goals among themselves in the Premier League. Contrastingly, Daniel Sturridge amassed 21 goals in the league as Liverpoolai??i??s fire power saw them finish above Chelsea.
The London club and their fans must have rued the fact that they let go off Sturridge and are currently in desperate need of a striker with similar qualities. The England international failed to grab a regular place in the starting line-up at Stamford Bridge since his move from Manchester City back in 2009, and was also left frustrated at played out of positions when he did start. Chelsea decided to offload the 24-year-old forward and the A?12 million transfer fee seems like a bargain now for Liverpool.
Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, who is a free-agent now, has accepted that the Blues made a mistake by selling Sturridge to Liverpool last year. The midfielder has also praised his development at the Merseyside club and has stressed on his importance for the national side ahead of the World Cup.
“I’m really pleased for Sturridge because at Chelsea I think he was a bit frustrated. He felt he could have played more.
“He felt the position he was playing in was one he wasn’t quite happy with and it was good for him to move in the end.
“It was maybe not good business for Chelsea. It looks bad, but you look back and you never know.
“Individually for him it was a good move. He has gone from strength to strength.
“I think he does get the credit he deserves now, but with what Luis Suarez does alongside him at Liverpool, maybe takes the edge of the praise.
“But for an English striker scoring as regularly as he has in the Premier League it has been amazing, and he is the sort of striker, the sort of attacking player, we have been crying out for with England.
