New Zealand international Winston Reidai??i??s contract expires at the end of the season.
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has placed a A?20 million price tag on New Zealand defender Winston Reid even though the defender could be available for free next summer. Reid has been a regular in the Hammers team and has been a major protagonist to their superb start this season which has seen them climb all the way up to fourth in the table. The centre back has not yet committed to a new deal and, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, has been linked with a January move to Arsenal or Liverpool.
However, Allardyce has revealed he has no plans to sell Reid during the upcoming transfer window ai??i?? unless another club decides to splash the cash.
“He ainai??i??t going anywhere. He is not going anywhere unless someone bids A?20m or something like that,” said Allardyce.
“There is obviously not a lot I can do about that.”
“If somebody flirts around with a measly offer because he is in the last year of his contract, we would make more money by keeping him and finishing where we are in the league ai??i?? rather than selling him and putting our good season in jeopardy.Because replacing him in January ai??i?? replacing anybody in January ai??i?? is a very difficult job indeed.”
Talks over a new deal between Hammers board and Reid have been going on since summer but with the transfer window fast approaching, this situation might be a worry for the West Ham fans. The New Zealand international, who is on the final year of his contract with the club has demanded a contract worth A?60,000-a-week and a huge A?1m signing on fee to remain with the club beyond the current campaign according to reports.
But Allardyce is still hopeful that the 26-year-old commits himself to the club and sign a new deal.”I just donai??i??t pay too much attention to it now it has gone on so long,” added Allardyce.
“I just hope that the phone call is a yes when the chairman rings me up at some stage.At the moment it is neither a positive nor a negative. It is neither a yes or a no from Reidy at the moment.”
West Ham have enjoyed their best start to a Premier League season and are currently in fourth place with 27 points from 15 games.
