Former Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell has warned young English footballers against joining the Citizens if they want regular first team football.
Jack Rodwell signed for Sunderland this summer after spending two frustrating seasons at Manchester City and the former Everton midfielder has warned young English players against joining the reigning Premier League champions if they want regular first team football.
Jack Rodwell progressed through the ranks at Everton, before he signed for Manchester City in 2012. The 23-year-old was one of the most highly rated talent in England back then, but his progress as a footballer seemed to have halted following his move to the City of Manchester Stadium. The English midfielder faced a lot of fitness concerns during his two-year spell at Man City and subsequently dropped down the pecking order at the club.
Rodwell made only 26 appearances for the Citizens in the last two seasons and was desperate to leave the club this summer in search of regular first team action. The arrival of Fernando Reges from Porto earlier this summer meant he would have found it hard to gain any playing time at Manchester City next season.
Sunderland showed interest in signing Rodwell as Gus Poyet was keen to add more quality to the midfield following the departure of Jack Colback, Craig Gardner and David Vaughan this summer. Rodwell spoke about his time at Manchester City and insisted that youngsters should think twice before joining the club.
