Chelsea FC and Manchester United are lining up a move for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, whose future at Santiago BernabAi??u is in doubts.
Rafael Varaneai??i??s long-term future at Real Madrid has come under a lot of speculations due to his lack of playing time and reports in Spain claim that both Chelsea and Manchester United are lining up a move for the Frenchman.
Raphael Varane joined Real Madrid in 2011 after impressing for Lens and in the French youth structure. Varane is widely regarded as one of the most talented young defenders in the World and he has already produced some dazzling performances for Real Madrid and the French national team.
But Varane, who was part of the France side which reached the quarter-finals in Brazil, is yet to grab a regular spot in the starting line-up at Santiago BernabAi??u. He has made only 29 appearances in the league in the last two seasons, and a lot of them came as a substitute, although it is fair to point out that the Frenchman has also struggled with his fitness during that period.
Carlo Ancelotti did prefer to start with him in the Champions League final against Atletico Madrid, but the 21-year-old is desperate for regular first team action next season. Varane is keen to learn Ancelottiai??i??s future plans for him, before he decides on his longai??i??term future.
Meanwhile various media reports claim that both Chelsea and Manchester United are closely monitoring his situation at Real Madrid and are ready to make a move for him.
Chelsea have had a busy summer so far and have already acquired the signings of Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis, and Mourinho is expected to turn his eyes towards Spain once again as he searches for a new center back. The London club are yet to sign a replacement for David Luiz, who completed his big money move to PSG earlier this summer and the Blues have been linked with a host of defenders recently. Chelsea also requires a long-term replacement for John Terry, who is at the fag end of his career at Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of Raphael Varane having signed him from Lens when he was in charge of Real Madrid and is hoping to convince him to join him at Chelsea. They have also been linked with Roma defender Mehdi Benatia, but Varane is a much younger and brighter prospect.
But Chelsea are set to face competition from Manchester United, who are also in the market for a new center back. United have been linked with Mats Hummels and Thomas Vermaelen this summer, but Luis van Gaal has reportedly set his eyes on Raphael Varane as he looks to shore up his defence.
A report in Le10 Sport claims Manchester United have already held talks with Varaneai??i??s agent and have received positive response about the Frenchmanai??i??s desire to move to Old Trafford. But Real Madrid are not to keen on selling him though, with Ancelotti confident of convincing him to stay as he sees him as a big part of the future at the Madrid based club.
It will take a mammoth offer from Chelsea or Manchester United to make Real Madrid entertain the thought of letting him go and reports suggest that both the clubs are willing to offer upto ai??i??30m for the youngster.
