Liverpool FC beat Cardiff City 6-3 in a heavy goal-scoring game with Luis Suarez getting a hattrick and Martin Skrtel getting two goals.
Liverpool were involved in another high scoring game as the Reds hit Cardiff for six goals. However, the scoreline shows that Brendan Rodgers’ side was again, vulnerable at the back.
Liverpool started the game on a very edgy note as the side went behind on two occasions in the first half. In the ninth minute of the match, Jordan Mutch put the home side ahead. However, Luis Suarez equalized for the Anfield side in the sixteenth minute. Ole Gunnar’s side again took the lead in the twenty fifth minute, this time through Fraizer Campbell. Martin Skrtel then scored in the 41st minute from a wonderful cross by Philippe Coutinho.
Liverpool looked more like themselves in the second half.Ai??Skrtel scored his second goal in the Ai??54th minute of the match, making it two braces for the season. Liverpool then took the lead for the first time in the match. A scintillating back-heel was the perfect set up for Luis Suarez, and the Uruguyan did not disappoint, scoring his second goal in the sixtieth minute. The Uruguayan then set up his strike partner fifteen minutes later and Liverpool led 5-2.Ai??Mutch claimed a consolation goal in the dying embers of normal time, but Luis Suarez made sure the three goal gap continues as he completed his hat-trick in the stoppage time.
Liverpool now have made it six wins on the trot and are the only side to be undefeated in the league in the calender year. The Anfield side keeps itself in the contention for the title and are four points behind league leaders Chelsea, with a game in hand.
Brendan Rodgers’ spoke after the match:
“We showed a number of qualities. I thought the quality of our goals was very good, we showed our composure and our focus, especially when we went behind.We went behind twice in the game and we didn’t panic, and in the second half we showed great composure on the ball to create chances.We scored six goals again and we showed that offensive power in our attacking game.”
Asked if Liverpool’s defensive display worries him and if it could have proved costly later, the Liverpool manager responded:
“That is the way it goes sometimes. The best teams will concede goals.
“We were probably too deep in the first half and the pitch was stretched too much, which gave them too much space.Ai??But I think anybody watching Liverpool today would see the real attacking threat we have. We were wonderful with the ball at times.”
Rodgers added:
“I am really, really proud of the team, and that is four games away from home that we’ve won on the spin and I can only be delighted with the performance and now we look to the next game.”
