Manchester United are looking for defensive reinforcements at the moment and names keep cropping up. Latest to join this list is Porto and Netherlands defender Bruno Martins Indi.

Reports in the English media suggestAi??Van Gaal is continuing to monitor Aston Villa captain and Netherlands defender Ron Vlaar, but a January deal for Martins Indi is now his top transfer priority, despite the 22-year-old only signing for Porto summer.
Martins Indi spent four years with Feyenoord, joining the first team squad as an academy graduate at the start of the 2010ai??i??11 season. He went on to make over 100 appearances for the Dutch side. After impressing in the 2014 World Cup, the 22 year old attracted Ai??a lot of interest in the transfer window and was eventually picked up byAi??Ai??FC PortoAi??for ai??i??7.7 million.
The Red Devils have also been linked with Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and have apparently thought of him as an ideal ‘back-up’ should they not be able to sign their main target Bruno Martins Indi from Portuguese side Porto.
Unitedai??i??s latest defensive injury blow saw Marcos Rojo ruled out for up to three months with a dislocated shoulder. Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans have all suffered from injuries this season and United need to ensure they have assembled some defensive reinforcements after the winter window closes.

It is highly unlikely that Porto will sell the defender they bought only this summer and it is surprising that the former Barcelona boss thinks he has a genuine chance of getting the player in the winter. There are certain reports that also claim that van Gaal is not going to invest in the winter unless a top target becomes available. Hence, there are a lot of rumors flying around and we don’t even know if the interest in genuine or not.
United have a far better chance of landing Ron Vlaar, especially since the player’s contract runs down next summer and would thus come for a relatively cheap price if he is brought in the winter. Vlaar would also want to make a move to United as not always do you get to move to one of the biggest footballing institutions like Manchester United, especially when youai??i??re 29. Moreover, the player would have a connect with van Gaal and being familiar with his methods, he would be keen to team up with him again.
