Manchester United are expected to announce the appointment of Louis van Gaal as the successor of David Moyes later today and they also have decided to sort out the future of their most decorated player before that.
Reports emerged in Europe yesterday that Giggs had a private meeting with Van Gaal in Hotel van Oranje in Noordwijk on Wednesday. Giggs and Van Gaal had reportedly had a long discussion over their plans for the club, it was a first meeting between the two as the duo only had spoken to each other on telephone last week.
However, it is still not clear whether Giggs will continue to play once he becomes the deputy of Van Gaal. But the Dutchman is of the opinion that Giggs should only concentrate on his coaching career and say good bye to his playing days. Giggs will be 41 when the new Premier League season starts.
Louis van Gaal is scheduled to complete the first phase of his training of Holland based players of his national team for upcoming World Cup and he will have a short break. Later on, they will be joined by rest of the players who play across Europe including United star Robin van Persie.
The Guardian reports that as with the national team, Van Gaal wants to make Robin van Persie the captain of Manchester United when he becomes the manager. But, as far as the appointment of new captain goes, United management are said to have different plans. Rooney is their favored choice as the Englishman is younger than the Dutchman and also has spent more time at Old Trafford.
The appointment of Ryan Giggs and Louis van Gaal are expected to start a flury of transfer activity in United camp. Southampton rejected the first offer of A?27m for Luke Shaw but United are determined to get the youngster and will make improved offer of A?30m next week. Current Holland goal keeping coach Frans Hoek is also the favorite to join van Gaal at United who will replace Chris Woods.
Louis van Gaal and Ryan Giggs are expected to get enough freedom from United management to decide their own transfer targets and apart from aforementioned Luke Shaw, United are likely to go for quality central defenders and midfielders.
