English Premier League duo of Manchester United and Arsenal is interested in signing Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio in the winter transfer window.
Claudio Marchisio, 28, is a long term target of Manchester United and Arsenal but his boyhood club Juventus has been reluctant to sale the player so far. But reports coming from Italy and England have claimed today that Arsenal and Manchester United are ready to offer Marchisio an improved contract in order to lure him away.
Claudio Marchisio is a regular starter for Juventus under new manager Messimiliano Allegri this season but his 2.4 million a year contract is set to expire in the summer of 2016 but the club has not opened the talks to extend the same and this has led to the renewed interest Arsenal and Manchester United in the player.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport has also confirmed the interest of Manchester United and Arsenal in Marchisio in their front page report today.
Juventus midfield is widely recognized as one of the best in Europe and along with Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal, Marchisio is a key member of the same. Marchisio is in a good run of form for Juventus this season as he has impressive 87% pass completion ratio.
However, in spite of his encouraging displays, the club has not opened the contract talks with the player yet. But according to the latest reports, Juventus are ready to increase the salary of Marchisio to 2.6 million euros a year to fend off the interest of Manchester United and Arsenal.
Manchester United are interested in signing another top quality midfielder in January transfer window as new coach Louis van Gaal is still struggling to find the right balance in his midfield. Manchester United splashed more than 70 million euros on Angel di Maria in summer but the player is not quite settled yet. But Van Gaal believes that Marchisio could form a lethal partnership with Di Maria in Manchester United midfield.
Manchester United value Marchisio at around 23-24 million euros and the club management believe any offer in this region would be enough to lure him away from Juventus.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are also in the market for a top class midfielder and they have been keeping tabs on the situation of Marchisio since past few years.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants to sign a midfielder as the Frenchman is desperate to maintain the title challenge of the club. Wenger has the transfer kitty of 20 million pounds for January and he could decide to spend the entire amount on Marchisio.
