Manchester City Official ai??i?? Eliaquim Mangala Completes His Move From Porto

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of French defender Eliaquim Mangala from Porto on a five-year contract.

France international Eliaquim Mangala has completed his long talked about move from Porto as became Manchester Cityai??i??s sixth signing of the summer. The transfer fee involved in this deal is believed to be A?42.9m, which makes him one of the costliest defender in the World.

The 23-year-old signed for Porto in 2011 from Standard Liege and established himself as a first team regular in the 2012-13 season, when the they went on to lift the league title. Mangala continued to impress last season and eventually made his debut for the French national side last year. Mangala was included the World Cup squad of France, but didnai??i??t make any appearance in the tournament.

The Porto defender was heavily linked with a move away from Porto this summer with both Chelsea and Manchester City monitoring his progress. But it was the reigning Premier League Champions who finally signed him.

Mangala became Cityai??i??s sixth signing of the season and their second from Porto, following the arrival of midfielder Fernando earlier this summer. The center back, who is highly rated, signed a five-year contract with the club.

Initial the deal was believed to be valued at A?32m, but latest reports suggest that Manchester City ended up paying A?42.9m for the center back. Third party ownership meant Porto received only 56.67% of the transfer fee, which is A?24.4m. Third-party owner Doyen received A?14.2m, while Standard Liege who had a clause to get the percentage of his transfer, received A?4.3m.
