Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette has been linked with a January move to Liverpool for a while now.
The Frenchman was, for some time, even linked in the summer, but the arrival of Mario Balotelli effictively removed those claims. But the Reds’ abysmal current form and the sheer paucity of goals ensures that strikers keep getting rumored with a move. Reports in English media in the previous few days have again stated that Liverpool are looking at Lacazette as the player they definitely want to bring in this January.

At present in Europe’s top 5 leagues, only Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more league goals (25) than Lacazette in 2014/15. This means that he has a better goalscoring record than the likes of Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Robert Lewandowski and Diego Costa.
The Frenchman is likely to command A?15million, which is not a high price for a young player doing superbly at the moment. His prolific nature in front of goal is exactly what Liverpool need at the moment in the absence of Daniel Sturridge. Lacazette, like Sturridge and Suarez, is a fast and mobile striker. He has striker like poaching skills and does not easy miss chances. But importantly for Liverpool, he is more like the player they are used to up top- someone who can move into wide positions, create space for others to pass or link up play, and be operated in various formations. In the absence of Suarez and Sturridge, Balotelli and Lambert have been used this season, and both these players are extremely immobile and do not fit into Liverpool’s fast and counter-attacking system (one that did so well last year).
Lyon are doing fantastically this season and have not let PSG or league leaders Marseille command a comfortable lead on top of the table. They are still very much in for the title, and would also get into Champions League next season, going b ycurrent form. In these circumstances, it seems highly unlikely that the player himself would want to move to a struggling unit. Moreover, Lyon would be very difficult to persuade and his sum could reach a very high figure if Aulas and co. do decide to part companies with the talented 23 year old.
