Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Daniel Sturridge and Mamdou Sakho were going to be missing out of action against FC Basel
Speaking at the press conference before Liverpool’s first away game in the Champions League in five years, Brendan Rodgers gave his team news. He revealed thatAi??Liverpool FC will be without French centre-back Mamadou Sakho for two to three weeks as Brendan Rodgers confirmed thatthe player picked up an injury in training.
“It’s pretty much the same as we were at the weekend apart from that Mamadou Sakho is not here – he has a slight strain, which may have him out for a few weeks.
Sakho stormed out of Anfield on Saturday after Brendan Rodgers left him out of the squad against Everton. Hours later, he took to Twitter and issued an apology and Rodgers also said that he personally apologized to the management, butAi??he now faces a spell on the sidelines and did not travel with the squad for the Champions League game at FC Basel on Wednesday.
Rodgers said: “His reaction (on Saturday) is not something we expect from one of our players. We’ve spoken, he’s apologised and we’ll move on from it.
“His injury came in a training session. It’s unfortunate – he’s just felt a pain in his thigh. He went and had a scan on it which showed he’s got a slight tear in there, which will be probably two to three weeks.”
Rodgers said that the squad which will be at his disposal against Basel is pretty much the same as he used against Everton last Saturday. Daniel Sturridge was said to be closing in on his return to action, but the Englishman has missed out as he wasn’t match-fit.
“Apart from that [Sakho], the squad is pretty much the same [as against Everton],” he said. “Daniel Sturridge isn’t quite available and the others that have been out are still out.
“It doesn’t leave us short, we’re working with what we’ve got. We always felt after this next international break we should everyone back and the group will be up to full strength again.
“We’ve got some young players who’ve travelled with us, so it’s a good experience for them.”
