Raheem Sterling is reportedly stalling new contract talks with Liverpool.
Liverpool are negotiating a new contract with Raheem Sterling to triple his wages to about A?100,000-a-week. Brendan Rodgers had issued a warning about paying young players too much, too soon but amidst the reported interest of Real Madrid and PSG, it seems there is an acceptance inside Liverpool football club that they must hand Sterling a deal to do justice to his importance to the club and exploding value in the transfer market. After handing a new five year contract to Daniel Sturridge this week, Liverpool are ready to reward Sterling with a new contract but the Reds winger is in no rush to pen a new deal.
European champions Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up a bid for the English ace. Carlo Ancelotti is understood to be a big fan of the 19-year-old winger and was contemplating a move for the player in August. But he decided to wait and judge his performances in the Champions League this season. Sterling is seen as a possible replacement for Angel Di Maria.
French champions Paris Saint Germain are also interested in securing the services of the Liverpool winger and are reportedly willing to triple his wages in a bid to exploit the current situation regarding the contractual stand-off.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has reacted angrily to these reports and wrote in the Daily Mail, ‘A headline reading ai???Kop fight to keep Sterlingai??i?? was not what was needed before a game of huge significance for Liverpool. Do not underestimate the importance of the showdown with West Brom. If Liverpool fail to win again, the international break will be an absolute nightmare and the mood will worsen.”
