AC Milan and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Mario Balotelli forAi??A?16m.
Mario Balotelliai??i??s future at San Siro came under increased speculation this summer and recent reports suggested that Liverpool have stepped up their interest in signing him. Despite AC Milan CEO Adriano Gallaini dismissing claims of receiving any bid from the Merseyside club for the Italian striker, Liverpool have now reached an agreement with Milan over the transfer fee for this move.
The 23-year-old joined AC Milan in 2013, after spending nearly three years at Manchester City. The Italian international has scored 30 goals in 54 appearances, in all competitions, since his arrival. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is keen on signing the striker after failing to land Loic Remy earlier this summer.
Liverpool are in the market for a new striker following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona. The Merseyside club were close to landing Loic Remy, but the deal failed to materialize at the last moment and the Reds turned their attention towards Balotelli.
The reports were initially fuelled when Rodgers expressed his admiration for the former Inter Milan striker and insisted that Balotelli possess all the qualities he desires in a forward. But the Liverpool manager was quick to dismiss any interest in signing him back then.
With the transfer window approaching its end, Liverpool have made their move to sign Balotelli. The Reds initially enquired about a loan deal to sign the forward, with an option to buy him at the end of this season, but Milan were only willing to entertain a permanent deal.
