No agreement has been reached with Liverpool over Alberto Moreno, according to the Sevilla president.
Liverpool have been linked with Sevilla’s left back Alberto Moreno since the beginning of the transfer window. The Reds were said to have made two notable approaches to land the Spaniard. The first one was pretty early on in the window and it was reported that the player was on his way with his father to Liverpool, to undergo a medical. However, it was later clarified that no such deal had been agreed upon and the Reds were unwilling to haggle for his services with Sevilla. They were offering Ai??A?16m, but the Spanish club didnai??i??t go below their valuation of Ai??A?20m.
A second approach was reportedly made when Iago Aspas joined Sevilla on loan. Rumors of a deal being back on started doing rounds but Ian Ayre, Liverpoolai??i??s CEO returned to UK without having negotiated a purchase of the 22 year old.
The third time these reports started doing rounds, it was suggested that the Merseyside club was finally successful in negotiations and that Moreno was heading to Liverpool. Rodgers had lost out on back-ups Ryan Bertrand and Ben Davies and had decided to go ahead with the Moreno deal. A deal was said to have been agreed upon by all three parties and it was even suggested that Moreno had lowered his wage demands to ensure that there are no last-minute hitches at the end. Several media outlets have reported that the Spaniard will undergo a medical and sign with last season’s EPL runners up after the UEFA Super Cup between Sevilla and Real Madrid in Cardiff tomorrow.
However, it now looks like Liverpool’s summer-long pursuit of Alberto Moreno is going to last longer as Sevilla President Jose Castro claimed that the deal between the two party hasn’t been done just yet.
“If Liverpool decide to pay the price we want then Alberto Moreno will go, otherwise he will remain with us,” said Castro.
“We made a deal 8-10 days ago, but nowadays we do not have an agreement.”
These reports are worrying, especially for the fans who have been tired by his transfer-saga. But it seems that these remarks are only made in a diplomatic way to ensure Moreno’s participation in the Cup tie tomorrow. Liverpool are apparently confident of striking a deal with the Spanish side for their main target.
