Brendan Rodgers feels that refereeing decisions ultimately decided the match against Jose Mourinhoai??i??s side and felt Liverpool deserved at least a point from the game.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was disappointed that his side were not given a ai???clear penaltyai??i?? in their 2-1 defeat against Chelsea at Anfield. Chelsea had to come from a goal down on Merseyside, with the impressive Emre Canai??i??s deflected shot giving Liverpool the lead early on in the first half. Rodgers recalled the likes of Steven Gerrard, Mario Balotelli and Jordan Henderson after they were rested midweek for the Champions League clash. Jose Mourinhoai??i??s approach was much more adventurous than last season and they equalized quickly through Gary Cahill who was the first to react after Simon Mignolet reacted sharply to deny John Terry.
Diego Costa did not threaten much in the first half and his only notable contribution was picking up a booking for shoving Martin Skrtel towards an onrushing Mignolet. There were strong claims for a Cahill handball in the penalty box but referee Anthony Taylor waved away the appeals. Cesar Azpilicuetaai??i??s cut-back was palmed into a dangerous area by Mignolet, allowing Costa to grab his tenth goal of the season. Rodgers introduced Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert to find the leveller and it was the non-award of a penalty after a blatant Cahill handball which has left the Reds boss fuming.
“It is bitterly disappointing for us it is a big decision in a big game that we did not get,” Rodgers said. “It was not even a doubt. It was a clear, clear handball. He (Taylor) had a clear look at it. He maybe needed some help from his linesman as well.”
“But that is where we are at the moment. We are not getting the rub of the green and itai??i??s been a tough week in terms of results. We are not getting the good fortune. But that was not even good fortune. We should have had a penalty.”
“Whenever you lose a game it will always go against you. But I felt we played a game-plan today. The changes obviously raised a lot of criticism in the week which I can take. Obviously there is pressure on when you donai??i??t get the result.We have lost three games on the spin and thatai??i??s something they (the Liverpool fans) are not used to.”
Injured striker Daniel Sturridge has set his sights on a comeback against Crystal Palace.Liverpool have sorely missed Sturridgeai??i??s goals in his absence and Rodgers is hoping that his comeback will be the catalyst to kick-start their season.”We are hoping Daniel will be back after the international break.”
