Liverpool edging closer to signing Leverkusen star Emre Can as they hope to make the 20 year old their first summer signing.

Brendan Rodgers hopes to make the rising German star his first singing of the summer. It seems that the Reds are pretty desperate to complete the transfer as urgently as possible, to secure the player from the clutches of German giants Bayern Munich who are insisting Can stays in Germany.
Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller explained few days ago that Bayern Munich wanted him to stay in Germany for another year.
“It is clear that Emre now has a clause in his contract, and it would be lucrative business for us, but that is not the sticking point – we feel he could do well for another year with us,” he said.
“Of course I spoke with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge [of Bayern Munich] on the subject. They think that for Emre’s development another season at Leverkusen would be just right.”
The Bayer management is clearly convincing the player to stay another year at the German club before potentially making a return to Munich. However, a deal which Leverkusen which the club would think is worth the player, would mean that Liverpool would be able to attain the signature of the youngster.
But attaining the player is going to be very difficult for the Merseyside club as Bayer don’t want to let the player go and theAi??club’s squad manager Michael Reschke said
“We will do everything we can to keep Emre. Because we are convinced that another year would be right for his sporting development with us.”
Can has been tipped as the future star of German football and is incredibly versatile. He primarily operated as a defensive midfielder but can also play as a left back, centre midfielder and an attacking midfielder. He is likened to Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Brendan Rodgers has spoken at length about wanting quality, and not quantity in the transfer window. He also expressed his desire at attaining versatile ‘multi-dimensional’ players who would give him greater flexiblity as a coach.
“Youai??i??ll get some players who are specialists and who need to play in particular positions, but if we can get players in who are multi-functional, and can play in different roles and are multi-dimensional in their work, it sets us up and gives me more options as a coachai???,Ai??said the Liverpool boss
But the good news for Rodgers and Liverpool is that CanAi??has an automatic A?10m release clause in his contract which means that the player can be roped in from within Leverkusen’s ranks. The attainment of the player would represent a good start to Liverpool’s transfers and it is reported that the Merseyside club is in advanced talks with the German club and expecting to conclude a switch very soon.
