Luis Enrique, says he is sure Lionel Messi is happy at the Catalan club after the striker hinted this week he might consider leaving Barcelona.
Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is convinced that Lionel Messi is happy at the club and insists he has not spoken with the Argentine forward about his recent comments regarding the future. Earlier this week Messi told a newspaper in Argentina that he would consider his future at the end of this present campaign. The 27-year-old added that influences seemingly out of his control might force his move away from the club indicating the fact that the ball lies firmly in the court of Barcelona directors at this moment. His manager Luis Enrique is adamant that the club legend is content with the life in Barcelona.
“When I’ve listened to Messi he says he is happy at BarAi??a, I don’t want to talk about speculation, I know that he is very happy here, he’s very proud to defend the BarAi??a and shirt that’s the only thing I care about,” said Enrique.
“I didn’t speak with Leo about his statement, I don’t talk with my players about what they say, I didn’t speak with him about it.”
“For me there’s no Leo Messi case, the fans will congratulate the team as they have done during the season. Players are not machines and Camp Nou fans know very well the needs of the team.”
The future of Gerard Pique is also in doubt with the defender linked with a move back to England after losing his place in the starting line-up and getting distracted with a number of off-field issues. The centre-back declared his support for the Catalan independence recently much to the anger of the national team supporters while his poor form has seen him occupy a seat on the bench on more than one occasion this season. When asked about Piqueai??i??s current situation, Enrique refused to go into details regarding what his discussion was with the defender.
“The things that happen in the lockerooms are treated inside and we try to do the best thing for the team, we don’t make them public known, we try to control the things,” the former Barcelona player explained.
“I’m focused on the players’ readiness for the competition, that’s enough work for me. I’m waiting for the best version of each player, same for PiquAi??, [Jeremy] Mathieu, [Marc] Bartra, [Thomas] Vermaelen, all of the players.”
He ended by assuming, following three weeks without a game at the Camp Nou, that the supporters will respond on Saturday as they always have. “There is no doubt in my mind that the BarAi??a fans will be getting behind the team,” he said.
