Late drama at Stamford bridge saw Chelsea take all three points against struggling QPR. The Blues maintained their unbeaten run, but required a late Eden Hazard penalty to scrap through after QPR had cancelled out Oscarai??i??s sensational goal in the first-half with a second-half strike through Austin.
Chelsea did the early running, and Oscarai??i??s goal-of-the-season contender gave them a well-deesrved lead. But, as it often happens, QPR defended resolutely and scored with one of the rare chances they had. Chelsea dominated the last 30 minutes and although they scored the winning goal, Jose Mourinho was not too impressed with what he saw from his team.
“My team didnai??i??t play well enough, or as well as I was expecting. We had periods of good football but not consistently. Iai??i??m happy with the points, which I felt we deserved, but itai??i??s another thing to deserve it and play very well, which we didnai??i??t.”
“Even in the first half we werenai??i??t terrific. We had a period that ended with the first goal, and then a period which started with their goal and finished, not with our second goal, but Green making two or three saves which kept them in the game.”
“It was 15 minutes here, 15 minutes there, we were playing against a very well organised defensive team … It was fantastic work by Harry to organise them defensively and they gave us a difficult match, but with our quality I would expect us to be stronger.”
The Chelsea manager hailed Oscarai??i??s 32nd minute strike, and adjudged that the Brazilian was his best player on the day.
The goal is not impossible in a very talented boy.
“For 90 minutes I think he was our best player. Not for the goal, but for the dynamic, for the intensity, for the transitions. He was always sharp.”
Eden Hazard converted a 75th minute penalty after a foul by Vargas. It was Hazardai??i??s eighth successive conversion from the spot in the Premier League.
The other grudge that Mourinho had from the match was directed at the supporters. The Chelsea manager bemoaned the lack of a spirited home crowd, and hoped for better vocal support.
“I took 30 minutes to understand that the stadium was not empty,” Mourinho said. “When we scored was when I realized ‘Woah, the stadium is full. Good’.”
Chelsea now have 26 points from their first 10 games, and look on course for yet another successful domestic season.
For QPR, it’s yet another tale of misery. The away side played well and defended resolutely, but ultimately it was a step too far to take points off the league leaders.
Manager Harry Redknapp deserves credit for his side’s hearty performance, but even he knows that defeats such as this are not the reason his side are mired in the relegation zone. QPR need to start taking points of the midtable and lower-table teams if they are to have any chance of beating the drop.var
