Spanish international Cesc Fabregas returned to the Premier League amidst a lot of controversy as the former Arsenal and Barcelona player joined Chelsea. The move came as a shock to many Arsenal supporters as the midfielder joined Mourinhoai??i??s team despite the long standing rivalry between Chelsea and Arsenal. As the two clubs go head-to-head on Sunday, all eyes will be set on Fabregas as the no. 4 plays against his old club and manager for the first time.
As if the fact that Fabregas has settled down so well after donning the Chelsea colours was not hurtful enough for the Gunners faithful, Mourinho went a step ahead to rub salt to their wounds by declaring that Fabregas wont trade teams if given a choice.
“I think he loves Chelsea already,” Mourinho said. “He’s so happy – the way he plays, the way he’s a member of the squad, the way he lives in this Little Blue Village.
“It is like he’s here for a long time. If you ask him now if he regrets the move, I’m sure he’d say no. If you ask him if he would have chosen a different option, he’d say no.
“And if you ask him where he thinks he’ll be in five years’ time, he’d say he sees himself here in five years’ time. He is Chelsea.”
When questioned about how the Arsenal fans will react to Fabregas playing against the club which he has previously captained, Mourinho expects a positive attitude from them. However, the Portuguese didnai??i??t hesitate in highlighting the way Chelsea treated Frank Lampard when he appeared and scored for Manchester City at the Etihad.
“Fabregas was, I don’t say born, but almost made at Arsenal,” Mourinho said. “The feeling should be a good feeling between the fans and him.
“But it depends also of the club culture, as you could see with Chelsea fans with Frank Lampard. And maybe you will see, who knows, Chelsea fans with Ashley Cole if he comes back with Roma. It depends.”
And if the Arsenal fans do turn their backs on the Spaniard, it wonai??i??t make much difference according to the manager.
“It depends on Chelsea’s fans, but if 40,000 Blues fans want it, nobody will listen to 3,000 Red fans,” he said. “The reaction from Arsenal fans? Nobody will hear it.ai???
The Chelsea manager also confirmed that Didier Drogba who has scored 13 goals in 14 games against Arsenal will miss out on the derby as midfielder Ramires will also sit this one out. The positive however remains that free-scoring Diego Costa will start the game for the Blues.
When reminded about his sideai??i??s resounding 6-0 victory against Arsenal last season, Mourinho remained coy and insisted that the victory is now a thing of the past and the game on Sunday will be a tough one.
