After winning the FPAI Young Player in 2010, producing mesmerizing performances with Pune FC and Indian Arrows, falling prey to an injury and signing for Indian Super Giants Mohun Bagan, Jeje Lalpekhlua’s career is on one hell of a roller coaster.
In his recent interview with The Hard Tackle’s Joseph Solomon, Jeje comments that ” Yes, after my injury at the end of 2010/11 season, it was hard to come back from. It takes a lot of struggle and a lot of patience to bounce back from an injury. Hopefully I will do so. Mohun Bagan has passed on a great mantle to me, and i will repay them, by working tirelessly for the team. And I will surely give my 100% to the team”
He soon justified his grit scoring some crucial goals in the Kolkata League for Mohun Bagan. Glimpses of the old forgotten, ecstatic and mesmerizing Jeje were back, but it is still left to doubt that his blazing form will run through the season or not.
“The Mizoram league is doing very good, it is operating brilliantly. Mizoram has always been a footballing state and it has proven itself time and time again. With many un-scouted talent and many new players coming out, i can say that we can see 2-3 team from Mizoram in the upcoming years competing in any division of the I-league” adds Jeje, when asked about the League structure in Mizoram.
The 23 year old being from Mizoram himself has proved vital for Pune FC, fascinating the country with his pace, scoring record and finishing.Ai??His style of play or role on the field could be described as a second striker or deep-lying forward, as he often comes deep down to help the team maintain possession. Jeje has also been instrumental for Team India, as he scored some crucial goals ever since his inclusion in the National Team. He has been capped more than 20 times for India and has scored 8 goals for the ‘boys in blue’
When asked about his thoughts on the upcoming Asian Games, Jeje says ” Personally, i think that the Indian National Team is playing brilliantly. There is a lot of effort put in by everyone, from the players to the staff. Obviously, it will take time to settle in, but the ball is starting to move quickly now, and i think we have a good chance in the Asian Games, if we work hard, it is very much possible”
The Mohun Bagan player also bids the very best to the Indian National Team and hopes that they achieve new horizons. The Indian striking mantle has been passed down through the ages, from Baichung Bhutia to Sunil Chhetri and with the form that Jeje is in, it can be rightly said that Jeje can very well be the next prominent figure in the striking department.
