This win means Germany have now qualified to the semi-final stage for a record fourth time in a row. They will now face Brazil in a highly anticipated clash in their next game.
France, who had a wonderful tournament till this game, can leave the tournament with their head held high, since they came to this tournament with such minimal expectations and have made tremendous progress since the debacle of 2010.
The Germans took an early lead in the match as Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels headed in a wonderful free-kick from Toni Kroos. Joachim Lowai??i??s side controlled possession after that goal and with trio of Schweinsteiger, Khedira and Kroos dominated the midfield.
Despite conceding that goal, France lacked urgency in attack and largely failed to trouble Manuel Neuer, till the closing few minutes of the second half. The Bayern Munich goalkeeper pulled out an impressive save in the dying moments from Karim Benzema shot and ensured Germany victory in this game.

Looking ahead to their semi-final clash, Low insisted that Brazil had the advantage of being the host nation and having the home support behind them.
“They will have a home advantage, you can’t deny that. The South Americans are fighting for their lives here.” ai??i?? Low added.
Low also explained his decision to drop Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker for this match and stated that the center back understands that it was a tactical move.
“Per is very important player for us and I spoke to him last night and explained, and he had a marvellous attitude and said ‘I just want to help the team’.
