Chelsea defender David Luiz is on Barcelona’s wish list again as Catalans ready to move for the Brazilian in the summer transfer window.
Various reports in English newspapers including Daily Mirror have claimed today that Barca are looking for a long term partner for Gerrard Pique and see Luiz as the perfect candidate.
The Spanish championsAi??were keen on Brazil international Luiz last summerAi??butAi??the Blues’Ai??returning manager Jose Mourinho refused to sell and the curly-haired fan favourite has played regularly under the Special One this season. The 51-year-old faced Barca in tense and heated matches in the Champions League with both the west London side and Inter Milan and of course had spiky exchanges with the Spanish champions whilst in charge of Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013.
Barcelona believe the 26-year-old is an ideal match for their squad next season and are likely to try again to test Chelsea’s resolve, but fear former employee Mourinho may not want to do business with them.
In addition, their valuation may only be around A?22million, which is unlikely to be enough to tempt the Londoners to do business.

Luiz has started 22 matches in all competitions this term, much of which have been in defensive midfielder and may have seen his chances of getting a place in Brazilai??i??s starting XI for the 2014 World Cup hindered as a result. The fact that a defender of DavidAi??Luiz’s quality is at Stamford Bridge has meantAi??MourinhoAi??has been in a position to rest his captain at stages this term, draftingAi??CahillAi??andAi??LuizAi??in together as a perfectly able partnership.
As a technically sound defender who is comfortable with the ball at his feet, the South American would fit perfectly into Martinoai??i??s style of play and is seen as a long-term replacement for veteran Carles Puyol.
Luiz joined the 2010 Premier League champions in January 2011 for A?21.5m and has since helped the team win the Champions League, FA Cup and Europa League.
Barca’s coach Tata Martino and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta have drawn up their hit-list of targets and Luiz is on their agenda as they look to bring in a centre-half and a goalkeeper.
However, it would be interesting to see if Roman Abramovich really decides to part his ways with Luiz. Chelsea know what DavidAi??LuizAi??is capable of. He is settled in the English game, familiar with his surroundings and knows what to expect every week when turning out for the Blues. It would be big gamble on finding that in another defender for the sake of offloading the Brazilian. Unless the Brazilian wants to leave, of course.
