FC Barcelona are keen to sign FC Porto full-back Danilo as a successor of Dani Alves, with both, Martin Montoya and Douglas failing to impress coach Luis Enrique.
Dani Alves is into the final year of his contract at FC Barcelona and the Brazilian right back is certain to leave the Catalan capital during the summer transfer window.
FC Barcelona signed Douglas from Sao Paolo this summer while they also have Martin Montoya, who is a La Masia graduate, in their ranks and both are specialist right backs but coach Luis Enrique is not at all convinced with their ability to succeed Dani Alves in the longer run. Hence, Luis Enrique has asked Sporting Director Andoni Zubizarretta to look outside and now, the club has set its eyes on Danilo of FC Porto.
Meanwhile, reports coming from Portugal and Spain have also confirmed the interest of FC Barcelona in Danilo. Portuguese publication A Bola has claimed in its report today that BarcelonaAi??are keen to tie up a deal forAi??Danilo Luiz da SilvaAi??as soon as possible. A full-back shortage is not a new problem for Barcelona, with neitherAi??MontoyaAi??nor DouglasAi??convincingAi??Luis EnriqueAi??andAi??Daniel Alves looking increasingly more likely to leave in the summer.
FC Porto signed Danilo from Santos for 13 million euros in 2012, making him the most expensive defender in the history of Portuguese football. Danilo has now become an integral part of FC Porto side and similar to Dani Alves, he is known for his aggressive runs forward from the right flank.
Incidently, FC Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is also looking for a full back who can help his strikers with his aggressive runs. Luis Enrique has given some chances to Martin Montoya in the early parts of this season but he is not satisfied with his performances and as a result, he has tried using Pedro Rodriguez as a right-back in recent games of FC Barcelona.
FC Barcelona are keen to sign Danilo in the winter transfer window but FC Porto have qualified for the next round of UEFA Champions League and they are not expected to grant the sale in January. However, FC Barcelona believe that an offer in the region of 20-22 million euros would be enough to get their man in January.
Football governing body FIFA has sanctioned FC Barcelona with a transfer ban but the Blaugrana have filed an appeal against this decision and they are hopeful that this ban will be lifted on next hearing of this appeal.
